Does Steam accept cryptocurrency or Apple Pay?

Steam used to accept Bitcoin and dropped it in 2017, so there is no crypto option on Steam today. It accepts cards, and Apple Pay is not offered on the Steam store at all on desktop. A card funded with crypto is the route, and you use the card details directly.

The part that trips people up is regional pricing. Steam prices games in your account currency, and changing the country of the account is restricted. A card from a different country can be refused precisely because Steam expects it to match the store region.

Why your card gets declined on Steam

The refusal is almost never about the card itself. Four checks run at once, and one mismatch is enough.

• Your bank blocks foreign online payments. On many cards this is off by default and has to be switched on.
• The card country does not match the account or billing country, and the merchant compares the two.
• There is no headroom for the verification hold. The merchant freezes a small amount and releases it later.
• Several failed attempts in a row, after which the payment method gets flagged for a few hours.
• Steam expects the card country to line up with the store region of the account. A mismatch is refused even when the card is valid.
