Telegram Stars pay for bots, channel subscriptions, mini apps and gifts inside Telegram. Premium unlocks faster downloads, larger uploads and the rest of the paid tier. Both are sold for money, not crypto, with one exception: Fragment sells them for TON. If you hold USDT or Bitcoin and do not have a bank card that Telegram accepts, this guide shows the three working routes and when each one makes sense.
Where Telegram takes the payment
- In the iOS and Android apps, Stars and Premium go through App Store or Google Play billing. The payment method is the card attached to your Apple ID or Google account, not a card you type into Telegram.
- On Telegram Desktop and Web, the purchase is a normal card payment inside Telegram's checkout. You enter card details directly.
- On Fragment, Telegram's own marketplace, Stars and Premium are sold for TON, with prices usually a little below the app-store price.
The app-store route is the one that trips people up: if your Apple ID or Google account has no valid card, the Stars button leads nowhere. The fix is to attach a card that works, and a crypto-funded card is the simplest one when local cards are declined.
Route 1: crypto-funded card in your Apple ID or Google account
- Register with IZIPAY, choose a virtual Mastercard or Visa, pay $49.99 in USDT, BTC or USDC. The card is ready in about two minutes.
- Top up with USDT (TRC20 is cheapest). Keep a small buffer above the pack price; app stores pre-authorise slightly more.
- Add the card to your Apple ID (Settings, your name, Payment and Shipping) or Google account (Google Play, Payment methods). Use a billing address in the country of your Apple ID or Google account, and pick United States as the card country when you set the card up.
- Open Telegram, buy Stars or Premium as usual. The charge appears as an App Store or Google Play purchase.
This route keeps everything inside the official apps, works for gifting Premium to friends, and the same card then pays for any other app subscription.
Route 2: card on Telegram Desktop or Web
If you do not want to touch your Apple ID or Google account, open Telegram Desktop or web.telegram.org, go to Settings, then Premium or Stars, and pay by card. Enter the IZIPAY card details, set the billing country to United States and confirm. Stars bought on desktop appear in your balance on every device.
Desktop prices are usually lower than in the mobile apps because there is no app-store commission on top.
Route 3: Fragment with TON
Fragment.com sells Stars and Premium for TON. You need a TON wallet (Tonkeeper or Telegram Wallet) with TON in it, and you buy directly on the site by username. It is the cheapest route per Star and fully crypto-native, but it does not help with the many other things you pay for by card, and prices move with the TON rate.

For most people the desktop route with a crypto-funded card is the sweet spot: lower price than the app store, no bank, no exchange account.
Why a Stars or Premium purchase fails and how to fix it
- No valid card on the Apple ID or Google account: add the crypto card there first.
- Card balance below the pack price plus a small pre-authorisation: top up with a buffer.
- Billing country of the card does not match the store: set United States for a US-BIN card and, if needed, use an Apple ID or Google account from a country where Telegram payments are available.
- Region where Telegram payments are restricted: use Telegram Desktop or Fragment instead of the mobile app.
- Prepaid-hostile checkout: try the other card brand. IZIPAY issues both Visa and Mastercard.
Gifting Stars and Premium
Premium can be gifted from a profile, and Stars can be sent as gifts inside chats. The payment goes through the same route you used for yourself, so once the card is attached, gifting works without extra setup. On Fragment you can buy Premium for any username directly.
